Syllabus

Basic concepts of Finite element method, Element types, stiffness matrix and force vectors. Degrees of Freedom. Geometry clean-up, 3D Elements (Solid Elements) – Tetrahedral, Hexahedral elements. FEA steps: Pre-processing, Solution & Postprocessing

Force, Stress, Strain, Stress-Strain diagram of material, Elastic constants, Poisson’s ratio, thin and thick cylinders, Failure theories, Yield strength, Ultimate strength, Fatigue strength, S-N diagram & Factor of safety.

Introduction to ANSYS design modeler, Geometric primitives, Boolean, Coordinates, Work planes, Geometric operations, Axis. Finite element modelling (meshing), meshing and size controls, Elements attributes, element types, material properties, creation of components, connections/contacts, Boundary conditions (Fixed support, Displacement support etc), Types of loads: concentrated load, surface, body and inertial loads.

Structural analysis covering following phenomena: Ansys FEM analysis software Material Assignment, Mesh Creation, Contact Creation, Linear static analysis, Thermal Analysis

We use Ansys Spaceclaim and work bench for CAD cleanup and ANSYS FEM solver for analysis and post processing. i. Stress analysis ii. Symmetry Analysis iii. Vertical Pressure Vessel (Hydro static Test) iv. Thermal Structural Analysis
